Women's Empowerment

We provide women micro-grants to tackle income poverty and give them the opportunity to earn a decent income for themselves and their families.

Women's Empowerment

Empowering women helps lift communities out of poverty.

The role of active participation of women in development and the benefit that accrues to them, as a result; for instance high income, better conditions at workplaces and their involvement in decision-making have documented over the years.Education is central to enabling women and girls to achieve these goals.

GENCAD aims to advance creative ways and means that would enhance women’s participation in the process of development both as beneficiaries and agents of change at a community, national and international level.

Women’s Economic Empowerment

International Development Research Centre defines Women economic empowerment as;

The capacity for women to participate in, contribute to and benefit from growth processes in ways that recognise the value of their contribution, respect their dignity and make it possible for them to negotiate a fairer distribution of the benefits of growth”.

GENCAD will address women empowerment in a number of ways;

  • Adult literacy and numeracy.
  •  Life skills training for women.
  • To advocate for women’s participation in the management of community affairs and development activities.
  • Provision of micro-grants

In remote marginal regions like Mandera, women are known to be resilient and at the forefront of making the lives of their families better by engaging in all kinds of small businesses. However, high level of illiteracy and structural problems continue to pose challenges for them to benefit from existing government funds.

Micro-Financing Loans

To address the challenges poor women face, GENCAD launched a micro-grant project to tackle income poverty and give them the opportunity to earn a decent income for themselves and their families.

Many women are unaware of existing government funds or are discouraged to apply for them by the formalities involved in accessing them.

This project will target widows, divorcees and ultra-poor women. The project will give them a small grant and business skills training. Also, GENCAD will support the women to organise themselves into savings and loans groups so that they can benefit from other sources of funding. Such support will result in women economic empowerment.

Adult Literacy Program

We plan to initiate adult literacy classes for women soon.

Our Impact

“UK AID is supporting Generation for Change and Development to give woman entrepreneurs in Kenya quality training and support, to help them build or improve their business – and lift them out of poverty... This is crucial work, particularly ahead of the UK-Africa Investment Summit in January, which will create new partnerships to deliver more investment, jobs and growth, benefitting people and businesses in Africa and the UK. The Small Charities Challenge Fund makes it easier for small British charities like this to access UK aid, helping them to improve lives and reduce poverty around the world.”
